Dating Apps

Ah…the quest for love. And for that seemingly elusive “the one.”

We’ve gone so far from the good ol’ handwritten love letters sent via snail mail or those *gasp* pay-by-the-word telegrams (complete with bears and plastic flowers) or even those cheesy electronic mails sent via Hotmail (complete with Friendster-like graphics…hooboy!)

These days, all you have to do is install an app on your smartphone, answer a few questions, maybe purchase an extra feature for as low as Php 50.00, upload your killer photo and tadaaa – before you know it, you have an SO (a.k.a. significant other).

Here are 3 dating apps that may help you in your quest or at least give that extra oomph to your lovelife:

Tinder (available on iOS and Android)

Swipe. Match. Chat. I think most of the people I know who use dating apps have accounts on here. Tinder is a location-based social search mobile dating app. After you set your account up, you will be presented with a myriad of profiles. All you have to do is swipe left or right. If you swipe left, it means you’re not interested. If you swipe right, however, it means you like that person. Now, if that person saw your profile and swiped right as well, then there’s a match and you can now chat with one another.

Coffee Meets Bagel (yes, that’s the name of the app and it’s available on both iOS and Android)

Out of the 3 apps that I’m mentioning here, I’m most optimistic about this one. The idea of CMB is pretty fascinating. Each day at exactly 12 noon, guys will receive up to 21 matches known as “bagels.” These guys will be given the option to either like or pass. Then, the app will curate all the best potential matches for the ladies. The ladies will then get to choose who gets to finally connect/chat with them among the guys who already liked them in the first place. Pretty cool!

OK Cupid (available on iOS and Android)

Just like Tinder, you will be presented with a myriad of profiles of other folks also looking for partners. You can see this in the “Discovery” tab. When you click on a certain profile, you get to read his/her passions, interests, thoughts and personality. Now, here’s a catch – you need to be a member and to do that, you need to pay. It’s not too expensive. Just think of it as an investment – if only to give your heart fresh breath of life.

Let me know if you find these apps helpful. I love to read love stories!

Incidentally, I am starting a series on my blog that aims to help interested folks start their own digital journey – from learning how to blog to starting an online store to using social media the practical way. Interested? Go to or follow me on Facebook:
